Daimler-Renault-Nissan marriage

Because of the world’s situation (crisis), car manufacturers must lower their expenses and maximize their production. The perfect solution for that is ‘’marriage’’ between two or more companies. Renault and Nissan, signed a deal several years ago. These companies are responsible for making Dacia and Infiniti, beside their own models. The new company in their deal is Daimler. This company is responsible for making Smart cars and Maybach. All three companies announced that they will continue mutual development in the future.

Their first project will be a small car. This car will be sold as Smart for-two, Smart for-four and Renault Twingo. About 70% of the parts for those cars will be the same, but, all parts that are visible to a customer will be different. They will share a new engine, designed by Daimler and made by Renault, mounted at the back of a car, and a new dual-clutch transmission. Renault had plans for its Twingo, which should be updated with rear-mounted engine, but it would be too expensive for production, so it would be impossible to make a profit. At that time, Daimler was looking for a business partner, for its new Smart car. The partnership should be very profitable! Smart has been producing rear engine cars for 17 years, and they are the best city cars!

Nissan and Daimler, will start producing cars in the joined facility in Mexico (near the existing Nissan facility). Production of the Infinity models will start in 2017, and in 2018, Mercedes will start producing their models. It is expected that every year, 300.000 units will be produced at this plant! In the future, this number will probably be higher!
