IndyCar driver Sebastien Bourdais

When the history of IndyCar Racing is written, Sebastien Bourdais’s name is surely to be written in golden letters. The four-consecutive-times Indy Car champion is the only driver to have such achievement and is not finished yet.

What some people might not know about Bourdais is that he also ran for Formula 1 for two seasons, in 2008 and 2009. In the middle of 2009, he dropped out since he was not able to have the same success there.  He is a cyclist and also runs to stay in shape.  He got his inspiration to become a driver from his father who was also a race driver. 

Sebastian Olivier Bourdais was born in Le Mans, France on February 28, 1979. He is one of the most successful drivers in Champ Car World Series history.  During his career, he has won over 70 races. He started his career at the age of 10.   In 1991 in racing karts, he won the Maine Bretagne League and the Cadet France championship in 1993.

He became the Rookie of the Year in 1998 after winning five races in the French F3. The next year, he won the series outright with three poles and eight wins.  After this, he changed teams several times.  In 2003, he went on to join Champ Car racing in the United States. He was part of Newmann/Haas Racing. 

With seven wins and eight poles driving Lola, Bourdais became 2004 Champ Car champion, a title that he would successfully defend for the following three seasons. By winning his third championship in a row, he equaled the same number of consecutive wins as Ted Horn in 1946-48.  When he won the fourth championship, he became the only driver with the record. 

When competing at the 24 hours of Le Mans, he finished second with his Team Peugeot three times.  At the present time, Bourdais is driving at the Verizon IndyCar series as a team member of KV Racing Technology.
