Michael Waltrip Racing Officially Named David Ragan As Its No. 55 Car Driver

On Tuesday, Michael Waltrip Racing increased its chances of capturing the Sprint Cup when it officially named David Ragan as its No. 55 car driver for the remainder of the season. That said Ragan will take up the driver’s seat for the first time in two weeks at the Kansas Speedway.

Ragan will be replacing Brian Vickers, who after a series of issues with his health, was forced to stepped down from the competition as he undergoes a blood thinning medication. Before Ragan was selected as the official driver who will be replacing Vickers following his health issues, Brett Moffitt, who is a rookie in the sport, was the one who took up the part after Vickers suffered blood clot-related issues and before Michael Waltrip Racing settled on Ragan as the replacer.

This is not the first time that Ragan has taken up such a role, before being selected as the substitute driver for Vickers as he undergoes medication, Ragan was taking up the position of injured Kyle Busch at Joe Gibbs Racing. That said Michael Waltrip Racing (MWR) have managed to secure his services for the remainder of the season.

In a statement that was released by Ragan with regards to MWR bringing him on board for the remainder of the season, the driver said that the only way that he will be able to repay MWR is by putting them in this year’s 16-driver playoff.

"It's going to be awesome knowing when I climb in the No.55 at Kansas that the car will be mine the rest of the season.

"I look forward to working with (teammate) Clint Bowyer, the crew and shop employees at MWR. It's tough what's happened to them this year, but I hope I can come in and make 2015 something special."
